Heating and air in Sarasota

A
phone call is all it takes

I'm Eva Britt. My family built this company for homeowners 65 and over: we call before we come, we write down what we find, and we never rush you into a decision.

Eva Britt

Owner

A two-story tan brick house with a wide front porch, a porch swing and rocking chairs, and shrubs in front.

A note from Eva

What I'd tell my own parents

Most of the calls we get from people over 65 start the same way: it has been making a noise for weeks, and they didn't want to bother anyone. Please call us at the noise.

We come on the day we say, and we phone before we arrive. Someone always explains what we found before anything gets fixed. You decide, and you never have to decide on the spot.

If a daughter, a son or a neighbor helps you, put them on the account. We'll talk to them too, and we'll write everything down for both of you.

Every visit

What we check, in this order

Ten things, written on one page that stays on your counter.

  • The thermostat reads true, and its schedule suits you

  • The filter: right size, its condition, how often you need to change it

  • The drain line and pan, cleared and flushed so they can't back up

  • The indoor coil, looked at for dirt and ice

  • The outdoor unit: coil clean, fan turning, plants cut back

  • Refrigerant pressures, read and written down

  • The wiring, the contactor and the capacitor, tested

  • The temperature drop across the system, measured

  • The breaker and the disconnect, and the heat strips or furnace if you have one

  • Your questions, written down and answered before we leave

Between visits

If it stops working

Call first. Most of these have a simple first step we can talk you through.

  • Blowing warm air

We'll ask you three questions on the phone, then book the first opening.

  • Water by the indoor unit

Usually a drain line. Turn the system off and call; we'll tell you what to put down.

  • A new or louder noise

Noises are the cheapest warning you get. Tell us when it happens.

  • It won't start

We'll have you check the thermostat and the breaker with us on the line.

  • A thermostat that won't hold

We set it up the way you like it and show you the buttons you need.

  • A musty smell

Often the coil or the drain. We look before we suggest anything bigger.

From plan members

What they tell their neighbors

“Nathaniel phoned when he was on his way, wrote down what he found and left the sheet on the counter. My daughter read it from Ohio and called him with her questions.”

Bernard H.Plan member, Siesta Key

“I was nervous about a stranger in the house. Corina told me his name and what time he'd come, and he showed me the old filter before he threw it out.”

Hattie D.Plan member, Gulf Gate

“We close the house up in May. They look in each month, and it doesn't smell shut when we come back in November.”

Before you call

Questions we hear most

Do I have to be home?

Yes for a first visit, and we like you there so we can show you what we find. After that, if you'd rather leave a key code with someone you trust, we'll agree it on the phone first and tell them when we arrive.

Will you try to sell me a new system?

We write down what we find and the price for each fix, and we leave the sheet with you. If a system is near the end, we say so once and show you why. We never ask you to decide the same day.

Can my daughter or son handle the account?

Yes. Give us their name and number and we'll talk to them as well: we'll text them the visit window and send them the sheet. We take instruction on your house only from you.

What does a visit cost?

We tell you the visit fee when you book, and the written price for any repair before we start. Nothing starts without your yes.

Is the plan insurance?

No. It pays for scheduled check-ups. It does not pay for parts, repairs, refrigerant or a new system. The plan page lists what is and isn't in it.

What if it quits on a weekend?

Our line is answered during business hours. After hours, leave a message or text and plan members are called back first the next morning. If anyone in the home is unwell from the heat, call 911 first.

Rather not call?
